The boxes are strong enough to support the weight of 24-30 beers. The cardboard used is called "wetboard" because it is coated with urethane or plastic (depending on the brand) so that the moisture that condenses onto the cans does not ruin the cardboard. The hat also has stitched reinforcement around the edge of the hat, with a wire ring inside. There is an elastic band around the inside of the crown that makes it one size fits all and adds to comfort.
