This thing must have been part of something else, like a copy holder. I am sure it can be used for something else. Whatever it held at its end must have had a cylindrical base 3/8 inch in diamter. (See second picture.) Each of the 2 segments is 12 inches long. The whole contraption can be adjusted at 3 places (with tightening knobs). It can be attached to something at thick as 2 1/8 inches thick.
